Now at 95600km and I tackled the CVT fluid at home.
Jacked it up, dropped the old fluid and replaced with new.
I was going to take the car for a drive and then drop the fluid again, but it was an absolute horrible job to do while laying on my back.
From having bottles falling over, my syring dripping all over the place and cvt fluid dripping in my face, never again. The faf over 2 and a half hours of going through 9 1litre bottles, I'm paying someone next time, or finding a lift to use.
Once filled, I started the car and cycled the gears and managed to get another 3/4 of a litre in the cvt.
The fluid that came out smelt like burnt tyres and was dark. When shaking it, I could still see some brown colour to it. The new was a light golden colour.
If you have seen my oil change post, you'll see that I lowered the car onto a tray that collected the old oil and it split resulting in a huge oil spill.
Well this time I used a proper oil catch can, lined it up and removed the drain plug.
The fluid came out with such force that it spilled over the catch can, and couldn't drain into the can fast enough, resulting in the cvt fluid spilling over the sides, over my cardboard and onto my drive. what will my neighbours think.
I will take it for a drive tomorrow and see if there's any improvements.
*THE NEXT DAY*
Holly wow what a huge difference.
Before the car always had a bit of a clunk when putting it into drive for the first time in the morning, compared to my touran that just slides in with ease. This was beautiful, it was effortless.
Previously, I would have said the car changed up the gears smoothly, but oh my goodness, it's even smoother. It really feels like a brand new car.
For Subaru to say the fluid is lifetime, I wonder if they ever drove in real conditions and changed the fluid.
Wearing the fluid, and making a huge mess was totally worth it.
Change your fluid!
